Sorry to be such a noob, but .. what are the material and gold requirements for FoW armour? What are the ways of accessing FoW?

A lot. If you don't know how to access the FoW you probably can't afford FoW armour ^^.

Only get it if you love it / no where to spend your money

Umm... yeah check the wiki
Just to make things clear, casters (excluding ritualists) and ranger need 105 ecto/105 shards while warriors, paragons, dervish, assassins & ritualists need 120ecto/120 shards. Also, depending on the profession various other materials are needed. As with all other elite armor sets you will need 60-75k.
